What to do after a Hurricane

Three weeks after Hurricane Ian, many families are still in shock and picking up the pieces to their homes. No one could have expected this outturn of events for many households, leaving many homes and establishments flooded and others without a home to return to after the storm. 

From the Maverick Home Group family, we send our prayers to each family out there picking up the pieces after the storm; as this can be a long grieving process for some, our hope is as a community, we can rebuild together. 

In this blog, we put together a short list of what you can do after a hurricane.

You will want to report and document any damages to your property to your insurance company; even if you are unsure, still take the precautions to make a claim.

Clean up as much as you can:

Damages from home to home will look different. Once you can, begin cleaning up as much as possible to properly assess all damages that may have occurred in your home. 

You will want to work quickly but steadily to ensure you get all areas of your home. This will be important when you begin to file your insurance claim to get proper visual documentation of your space. 

For some damages, you may need outside help. 

 

Inspect your home or get a home inspection:

Once your home is clean to the best of your abilities, you will want to begin a walkthrough of your home. You will want to check your electronics, stairs, walls, roof, etc., to ensure everything is still intact or working effectively.
